It's All In A Nights Work Produced by Johnny Metheny and Dan Frank Screenplay by Johnny Metheny This is the story of the relationship between 2 best friends and their 2 co-working sidekicks. All 4 of the men work in a bar. The story follows their character development and relationships through the movie. The first person is the star of the movie. He is a man in his early 30's named Mike. He is the manager of the bar but does not generally enjoy it. He has aspirations to get a day job, but works in the bar for now because of the money. Mike is a little serious, but has a sense of humor. He notices the woman in the bar but doesn't eagerly chase them. He is there to do his job. When off work, he enjoys his play with his buddies but never goes too crazy, always keeping it in control. He also doesn't show too much emotion. The second is Steve. He loves the bar business. He is more of the showman bartender. He wants to open a bar with Mike one day. He loves the women that come. He likes to party, but again never looses control. He is the instigator with Mike on most of their adventures. He is extremely loyal to Mike and considers him the greatest bar manager as well as friend. In turn, Mike admires his energy and people skills. He is also an ideas person, a dreamer. Looks at positive side of things and the other guys enjoy that. The third person is Matt. He has been a barback at the bar for 2 years. He is younger and loves bar backing. He is great friends with Mike and Steve. He has a little brash side to him. Does his job, but always checks out the chicks. The first to want to follow any crazy ideas, as well as having plenty of his own. Has the dirtiest jokes and lines in the movie. The forth person is Andy. He is a brand new barback and his character develops the most in the movie. At first he is extremely shy, but as the movie progresses, he learns from the other guys, especially Steve, and breaks out of his shell and learns people skills and gains confidence in himself. There are other characters, like Jake, the Irish-American bartender with a little bit of an attitude and the offensive humor; Bob, the huge but gentle and polite security; James the black, queer waiter; Missy the strong cocktail waitress; and other bar staff, customers, and people they come into contact with through out the movie. The movie begins with Mike setting up the bar. Andy comes in and applies for a job. Mike lightheartedly tries to talk him out of it, but sees past Andy's shyness and gives him a job. The next scene is Andy preparing for work, and then walking into the bar. It is packed. He is lost. Nobody really helps him. Finally Mike sees him and has Matt train him to barback. Matt then updates the audience on much of the bar and characters. This scene is a narrative for the movie. This scene also gives a real life experience of working in a fast bar and how fun it can be. Part of the way through Steve makes his entrance. He knows everybody and shows his people skills. Andy is quietly impressed. The story then continues with the guys living the bar life. The story has many funny moments. It shows real life experiences: meeting girls, working, partying, going to different clubs and bars, road trips… basically living the bar life. It lets the audience experience the different music, clientele, and humor… of different places. There is also the conflict when Mike and Steve meet two women. Steve has a one-night stand while Mike starts to date. Steve is a little confused, jealous…until they work it out. Steve tries to convince Mike that they should open a bar, but Mike continues to blow him off. Then the bombshell of the movie. Steve has a soar stomach but refuses to go to a doctor. Mike finally drags him to one. The doctor notifies the two of them that Steve has cancer. Now the movie turns to Steve's health and the impact it has on the other guys. Watching their friend slowly die. During the whole time Steve is upbeat and truly believes he will beat this. Mike is the one who sees the inevitable but tries to do the best for Steve. He visits very often, in fact they all do. The even sneak him out. The tearjerker of the movie is when the nurse tells Mike that Steve passed away the night before. Mike is speechless, numb, confused… The scene of the funeral, with Mike staring at the casket, is the heart breaking moment. Mike is now confused with life: his career, his girlfriend, and god… Now he really hates working in the bar and doesn't know what he wants to do. It is his girlfriend that had the initial conflict with Steve that talks him into opening a bar named after Steve. They still don't know how they are going to get the money, but now Mike is fired up and is really going to put his energy into it. Now he sees what he wants to do and believes nothing can stop him. He passes word to the guys, and they agree. The guys apply for a SBA Loan but get rejected. The money for the bar comes from one of Steve's ex-affaires: a divorced attractive woman. She is wealthy and confides in Mike that she loved Steve and wants to do this for him. The movie ends here, with the guys remembering Steve. Then there is a picture show of the opening of the bar, from signing the lease, construction, to opening night, all with music playing. Then a final picture of the guys on opening night taking a picture in front of a picture with him that was taken earlier in the movie.
